Information on Costs and Billing of My Speech Therapy Services

On this page, you will find detailed information about the costs of my speech therapy services. I explain how the prices for private insured patients and self-payers are structured and answer frequently asked questions regarding treatment costs. My goal is to provide you with transparency and clarify any uncertainties, so you can plan your speech therapy treatment well. If you still have any questions, I am, of course, available for a personal consultation.
In my pediatric speech therapy practice, I base my billing on the established principles of the fee agreement from the GKV-Spitzenverband. For private patients, I charge the 1.8 times rate of the set fees for voice, speech, language, and swallowing therapy. This multiplication factor is common within private honorariums and is based on the individual quality of service, time commitment, and specialization of my practice.
  • The compensation agreement for 2025 under § 125 SGB V can be downloaded as a PDF (German) directly from the GKV-Spitzenverband.

Answers to the Most Important Questions about Treatment Costs for Private Patients and Self-Payers

What costs arise from speech therapy treatment?

The costs for speech therapy depend on various factors. If a doctor’s prescription is provided, the statutory or private health insurance usually covers the costs.

  • Statutory Insured: Adults pay a co-payment of 10% of the treatment costs plus a flat fee of 10 € per prescription, unless exempt. Children and adolescents are exempt from the co-payment.
  • Private Insured: The reimbursement is based on your individual plan. Please clarify the cost coverage in advance with your insurance.
  • Self-payers: Without a doctor's prescription, you can also privately use the therapy. The costs depend on the duration and type of treatment.

I would be happy to provide you with personalized information regarding the costs incurred.

How do the treatment costs differ for private patients and self-payers?

The treatment costs for private patients and self-payers primarily differ in the billing process and potential reimbursement:

  • Private patients: Billing is based on the Fee Schedule for Providers of Therapeutic Services (GebüTh). I charge the 1.8 times rate, which depends on the duration and type of treatment. The reimbursement depends on your insurance plan. It is recommended to check with your private health insurance in advance to see to what extent the costs will be reimbursed.
  • Self-payers: Without a doctor's prescription, you can directly access the therapy as a private service. Here too, I charge the 1.8 times rate of the GebüTh.

I would be happy to personally advise you on the exact terms.

How do I receive a cost estimate?

You can easily receive a cost estimate for your speech therapy:

  • 1. For private patients:
    • Submit your medical prescription to me or let me know which services you need.
    • I will create an individual cost estimate based on the 1.8-fold rate of the GebüTh.
    • You can then submit the cost estimate to your private health insurance for reimbursement.
  • 2. For self-payers:
    • If you wish to take the therapy without a doctor's prescription, I will inform you about the possible treatments and costs.
    • You will then receive a transparent cost estimate with the expected total costs.

Contact me via email or phone, and I will be happy to provide you with a cost estimate.

Who covers or pays for the costs of a speech therapy treatment?

The coverage of costs for speech therapy treatment depends on various factors:

  • Statutory Insured: If a medical prescription is provided, the statutory health insurance will cover the costs. Adults are required to pay a statutory co-payment of 10% of the treatment costs as well as a flat fee of 10 € per prescription, unless an exemption from co-payment is in place. Children and adolescents are exempt from the co-payment.
  • Private Insured: The coverage by the private health insurance depends on your individual plan. I charge the 1.8 times rate of the GebüTh, so it is recommended to clarify in advance with your insurance company the extent to which the costs will be reimbursed.
  • Self-Payers: Without a doctor's prescription, therapy can also be taken as a private service. The billing is also based on the 1.8 times rate of the GebüTh.

I would be happy to inform you individually about the costs and billing options.

How are the treatment costs billed?

The billing of treatment costs is usually handled directly through the statutory or private health insurance.

  • Statutory Health Insurance: If a medical prescription is provided, the health insurance companies usually cover the costs. A co-payment of 10% of the costs plus a €10 prescription fee may apply, unless the patient is an adult or exempt from co-payments.
  • Private Insured: The billing is done according to the fee schedule for healthcare providers (GebüH). The reimbursement depends on the individual insurance plan.
  • Self-payers: If there is no coverage by the health insurance, the services can also be taken privately.
Can I schedule a consultation appointment to clarify the costs before starting therapy?

Yes, of course! We can gladly schedule a consultation appointment before therapy begins to clarify all questions regarding cost coverage and billing. This way, you’ll know exactly what costs to expect and what reimbursement options are available.

Contact me easily via phone or email to schedule an appointment.

How is the process of billing during the therapy carried out?

The billing process during therapy depends on the type of cost coverage:

  • Statutory Insured: The billing is done directly with your health insurance company. You only pay the statutory co-payment (unless exempted).
  • Private Insured & Subsidy: You will receive an invoice that you can submit to your insurance or subsidy office. The reimbursement depends on your individual tariff.
  • Self-Payers: You will receive an invoice according to the agreed fee.

We would be happy to clarify all the details in a consultation beforehand.

What payment methods and billing options are offered?

The payment methods and billing options depend on the type of cost coverage:

  • Statutory Insured: Billing is done directly with the health insurance company. If a co-payment is required, it can be paid by bank transfer or in cash.
  • Private Insured & Allowance: You will receive an invoice, which can be paid via bank transfer. Reimbursement will be made by your insurance, depending on your individual plan.
  • Self-payers: Payment is made via bank transfer, based on the agreed fee.

We would be happy to discuss individual billing preferences in advance.

Are there additional fees or do the prices vary depending on the method used?

The costs are based on the respective billing criteria:

  • Statutory Insured: There are no additional fees, except possibly the statutory co-payment.
  • Private Insured & Subsidy: The prices are based on the Fee Schedule for Therapists (GebüTh) or individual agreements with the insurance. Reimbursement amounts may vary depending on the plan.
  • Self-payers: The payment is based on the agreed fee amount.

Additional costs only arise in exceptional cases, such as for appointments not canceled in time according to the agreed terms.

How can I ensure that the treatment costs stay within budget?

The costs for therapy are usually covered by the statutory health insurance. Only a statutory co-payment of 10% of the treatment costs and a charge of 10 EUR per prescription apply.

For private insured, beneficiaries, and self-payers, the total treatment costs are known in advance, as they are based on 1.8 times the rate of the GebüTh. The exact costs for each service or therapeutic aid can be found in the table on this page.
