Patient Information

To carry out speech therapy, a doctor's prescription is required, which can be issued either as a medical prescription or a private prescription. Typically, you obtain this prescription from general practitioners, ENT specialists, phoniatricians, or pediatric audiologists.
  • For specific issues, such as disorders of orofacial or myofunctional development, dentists or orthodontists are also authorized to issue the appropriate prescription.
  • If necessary, the treatment can also be carried out as a home visit or in external facilities upon a doctor’s order.
  • As a rule, both public and private health insurance providers cover the therapy costs.
Important: The therapy must begin within 14 days of the prescription being issued. To avoid delays, we recommend obtaining the prescription from your doctor only after successfully scheduling an appointment with our practice.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the Most Important General Questions About My Services

What is a speech therapy prescription and how do I obtain one?
A speech therapy prescription is required to begin speech therapy. It can be issued either as a medical prescription or a private prescription. Typically, general practitioners, ENT specialists, phoniatrists, or pediatric audiologists are the ones who provide the prescription. In some cases, such as with oro-facial or myofunctional issues, dentists or orthodontists can also issue the prescription. Once you have the prescription, you should schedule an appointment at our practice to start the treatment. Please note that therapy must begin within 14 days after the prescription is issued.
How long does speech therapy take?
The duration of speech therapy varies depending on the type of disorder and the individual progress of the patient. A typical session lasts around 45 minutes. The number of required sessions depends on the severity of the disorder and the goals of therapy. For mild issues, shorter therapy may suffice, while more severe conditions may require longer-term treatment. The duration is always determined in consultation with the therapist and regularly reviewed to evaluate progress. Regular attendance and practicing at home are crucial for achieving the desired outcomes.
What costs are associated with speech therapy?
The costs of speech therapy are generally covered by statutory and private health insurances when a corresponding prescription is available. However, there are differences in coverage, depending on whether a medical prescription or a private prescription is issued. Statutory health insurances typically cover the costs fully, as long as the therapy is based on a doctor's prescription and follows the insurance guidelines. For private insurances, costs can vary, and the patient may need to pay a portion of the fees. We recommend checking with your insurance provider before starting therapy to confirm the exact coverage details.
What can I do to support the success of the therapy?
To maximize the success of speech therapy, your active participation is crucial. Make sure to consistently carry out the homework and exercises recommended by the speech therapist. Establishing a regular practice schedule is particularly important to apply what has been learned in everyday life. You can also support therapy by providing positive reinforcement, acknowledging progress, and motivating yourself or your child. Close communication with the therapist helps adjust the treatment to ensure therapy goals are met. Your involvement in the therapy process and your support at home are key to the success of the treatment.
What happens if I can't attend a therapy session?
It may happen that you miss a speech therapy session due to illness, personal reasons, or other circumstances. In such cases, it is important to inform me as early as possible. If you need to cancel an appointment, I kindly ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance. If an appointment is canceled within 24 hours or in case of no-show, unfortunately, the full session fee will be charged. In most cases, a replacement appointment can be scheduled, depending on availability in the practice. However, missing sessions over a longer period can affect the progress of the therapy, as continuity and regular practice are crucial for success. To avoid such situations, I recommend scheduling sessions in advance and, if necessary, arranging a replacement appointment. Please remember that regular attendance and consistent practice at home are essential components of a successful speech therapy treatment.
